Lively Irish pub across the street from Rutger Law School in Newark, New Jersey. Tons of commotion and good times to be had.
A Must Stop...
It's definitely a must-stop when in the Newark area for lunch or dinner. The perfect Irish pub. Get here early for lunch as the place fills up quickly. The staff are all nice and always check on the tables. Drinks never get to the bottom before a refill. The menu has lunch specials. Prices are cheap, and food is plentiful. It's a perfect combination. Overall 5 stars.
Atmospheric Irish pub...
Atmospheric Irish pub in the middle of Newark. Good beer, can't say anything about food. It was Thursday night and the place was full of reasonably drunk college students, but they were not aggressive. Good place to have a pint after a long day.
Lively Irish Pub...
Lively Irish pub with lots of bar and table seating options. Packed at 6pm on a Friday night, no host at the door so seated ourselves. Great happy hour drinks specials 4-7pm. Food came fast and was piping hot, but honestly was nothing special. We had burgers, fish and chips, and corned beef and turkey sandwiches. Sandwich was by far the highlight, with meat piled high.
Great for late night. Love the bartender. He makes great drinks and is very attentive. The food options were simple but done right. Haven’t had a bad experience yet
We stopped by Mc Govern on a weekday noon for lunch. Its situated in the busy area of Newark, so parking is sorta difficult to get during lunch hours.
The restaurant has nice Irish pub ambiance but appears somewhat stale with its interiors and furniture. Food wise I did like my corn beef rueben. The ingredients blended well. Sweet potato fries were good too.
We will visit this place often since it’s a decent lunch spot.

One of my Favorite Places...
One of my favorite places to grab a drink in Newark! My coworkers and I go here for pretty much all of our celebratory events and good ol' happy hour. But listen THE BURGERS ARE TO DIE FOR! (Closely followed by the stuffed jalapenos and mozzarella sticks) -- anyway go here thank me later.
Great Food & Service...
Great food and service! Always a great experience at McGovern’s. Local college bar so can get busy during the academic year on weekends and holidays but during the summer/lunch time it’s really tame. Food is always fresh and servers are always really nice.
Great Place...
Great place, has an amazing vibe. Food is a good too, but a little expensive for what you get. Paid 15$ for three small pieces of fish it was phenomenal don’t get me wrong just wish portions were a little bigger
